Cemetery etiquettes we must observe this ‘Undas’

November is almost here! And it’s that time of the year again when we pay our respects to our departed loved ones. As we celebrate this year’s All Saint’s Day, this is the first time that travel restrictions and mask mandates are now less strict in three years. Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. just declared recently that apart from November 1, Oct 31 is also a special non-working holiday to give us more time with our families. So before you hit the road to the cemetery, check out these etiquettes we must remember to have a peaceful and safer long weekend with our loved ones.

Cemetery Don’ts

  • Driving at fast speeds
  • Littering
  • Play loud music
  • Bringing items that can cause damage to other people (e.g. videoke or any sound system, firearms, deck cards, bingo cards, flammable materials)
  • Walk over graves
  • Public indecency
  • Take photos of other people
  • Leave breakables behind
  • Do not smoke
  • Do not bring alcoholic beverages
  • Do not go if you are not vaccinated

Cemetery Do’s

  • Check the condition of your car before leaving your home
  • Research travel advisory on your local city
  • Pray for your departed loved ones
  • Respect other people’s grievances
  • Observe rules and cemetery hours
  • Have a picnic
  • Pick up your own trash or clean the gravesite
  • Keep your phone on silent
  • Practice social distancing

From all of us here at Bridgestone Philippines, we wish you all a meaningful and solemn celebration!
