When you watch the news, reports onvehicular accidents are a dime a dozen and you probably won’t be surprised to know that road accidents rank fourth in the Philippines’ leading causes of death.
So whether you’re going on a weekend road trip or simply just driving to work, it’s important to keep a mental note of these road safety tips every time you hit the road.
Make sure you’re well-rested before driving
If you know you will be driving the next day, whether it be short or long distances, make sure you get enough sleep and get energized by eating the right amount of food the day before. If you think that highly-caffeinated drinks are a big help, re-consider your choices. Although these kinds of energy drinks could keep your energy levels high at first, you will eventually find it hard to focus on the road once the effects die away.
Never forget to buckle up!
A lot of drivers and passengers consciously refuse to buckle up and wear their seat belts for the minor reason of inconvenience. Think of it this way, if you get into a car accident, a seat belt can very well save your life and all you have to do is simply fasten it.
Keep your hand on the steering wheel
A good driver always keeps his hands on the wheel. The key to safe driving is to never lose focus. Multi-tasking while driving is the biggest no-no when you’re on the road. If you have to do something else urgently, like checking your mobile phone, texting, or calling, pull over. In the same way,don’t do your make up, or eat while you’re driving.
Obey the law
Familiarize yourself with driving laws in the Philippines to avoid accidental collisions caused by lack of know-how when navigating through roads.Take note of speed limits in highways and always spot road signs and follow them.
Keep your vehicle in shape
Make sure that your car is well-maintained and regularly serviced to keep you and your family safe at all times.
